Who Gets Medicare

Articles - Medicare
There are several different categories of people who are eligible for Medicare. You are eligible for Medicare if you are aged 65 or older. Medicare is basically a government funded health insurance plan for people aged 65 and older. It is also for people under 65 with certain disabilities and in some instances for other groups of people under certain conditions such as permanent kidney failure where you can get Medicare coverage at any age. It contains a Medicare Part A, a Part B and Part D which is prescription drug coverage, or Medicare RX.

If you aren't eligible for the premium free Part A, you may be able to buy Part A if you are aged 65 or older and you are enrolling in Medicare Part B, or you are eligible for it, and you meet all of the requirements for getting Part A such as being in the US for over five years and being an US citizen or legal alien. You also may be eligible if you are under 65 and disabled and you no longer receive the free Medicare Part A because you returned to work. However generally, if you choose to buy Part A, you must have Part B which you will then pay monthly premiums for both of the coverage.

There are very specific requirements that must be met whenever you apply for Medicare. Additional you can get Medicare coverage if you have been collecting disability for two years. Then you have to apply for the coverage. The different parts of Medicare coverage help cover various specific services if your condition meets certain requirements.

But Medicare is intended for those people who are 65 years and older and are living in the United States. It is not a Social Security entity however but an independent agency.
